TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS on Sunday 8/22, 2010 At North Shore Towers and Country Club Organized by Chinese American Tennis Society of New York www.CATSNY.ORG

Dick Chen has generously offered his club’s 5 courts for NY area tennis friends to have a competitive and fun-filled summer tennis day! All registration fees will be used to cover some event costs, and the rest will be donated to North Shore Hospital.

Location: At North Shore Towers and Country Club’s tennis facilities

Facility: 5 outdoor Har-thru soft courts with lighting, change/bathrooms. Soft court tennis balls will be provided. These courts may need sweeping after heavy use to smooth out surfaces and clear lines.

Events Schedule: (projected time, actual time to be finalized after registrations, depending on number of players in each group)

• Men’s Doubles (MD) start at 12 PM, check-in by 11:30 AM 

• Men’s singles (MS) starts 4 PM, check-in by 3:30 PM

• Mixed Doubles (XD) start by 6 PM, check-in by 5:30 PM

Match rules: all group competition will be by round-robin; each match will be one set, no-deuce games, and a 7-point tie-breaker at 6-6, time limit of 50 m per match, including a 5 m warm-up. Expected time is 30-40 m per match. 

Events: Singles in 1 level and Doubles groups in 2 levels will be arranged for:

Intermediate: UTR 3.0-3.5 for Singles, 7.0 for Doubles (sum of partners’ NTR)

Advanced: UTR 4.0 & above for Singles, 8.0 for Doubles (sum of partners’ NTR)

Adults over 18 years-old only, juniors only if accompanied by parent/guardian

Expect 4 to 8 entrants per group, depending on number of players registered. We will try to arrange a partner if you need it.

• Men’s singles Advanced (MSA): up to 8

• Men’s Doubles Intermediate (MDI): 8 (16 players)

• Men’s Doubles Advanced (MDA): 12 (24 players)

• Mixed Doubles (XDI): 12 (24 players)

• Women’s Doubles will be included in Mixed Doubles groups

Fees: $10 per player per event entered. We expect 2 events (1 singles & 1 doubles, for ex.) entered per player, or $20 on average, or about 40 distinct players in total.

Trophy(s) will be awarded to winner(s) of each event.

Tennis gear: Bring your own gear. Tennis balls will be provided.

Food: organizers will provide 1 sandwich per player, and beverages.
